About the Edith Winthrop Teacher Center

The Edith Winthrop Teacher Center of Westchester encompasses the Teacher Center itself and the Teacher Center Institute (described on the next page). The Center (and not the Institute) is funded through the State Education Department and governed by Ed Law 316. With the funding received from the SED, we design systemic and quality professional training programs for our consortium teachers that are responsive to their emerging needs. Through a combination of surveys, informal discussions, and special requests by school personnel, the Center identifies specific areas of need and provides members with the support necessary to develop skills and enhance their level of knowledge in specific curricular areas. The Teacher Center also provides services to consortium teaching assistants, administrators, students, parents, and community members.

The Teacher Center provides or helps facilitate:
* Onsite consultants in consortium schools, including lesson modeling in the classroom
* Staff Development days
* Teacher Conferences
* Teacher Visitations to observe innovative or new programs in other schools
* Teacher and Administrator Networks
* Support for classroom projects (PDQ Program)
* Resources and Materials
