About The Westchester Institute for Teachers

The Westchester Institute for Teachers offers professional development opportunities to both consortium and non consortium members with consortium members receiving a discounted rate. Through the Institute, we offer inservice and graduate level courses. We disseminate two brochures a year: one in June for the fall/winter semester and one in February for the spring/summer semester. Since the Institute courses are not funded, we charge tuition which is used to pay the instructors salaries and their course materials. Courses are offered at various schools within our consortium or Online. All online courses are offered by instructors who have trained for a minimum of 45 hours through the NY Institute of Technology. We also offer, through the Institute, a Professional Diploma in School Building Leadership, a Master of Science Degree in School Building Leadership, a Teacher Leader Certificate Program, and a Doctorate of Professional Studies in Computer Science and Information Systems.

Beginning in July 2008, the Teacher Center began accepting electronic registration for Institute courses. Participants can register for courses by visiting our website and clicking on Register Online. You will have the option of paying for courses through PayPal or submitting a check or checks for the applicable courses. Of course, you may still register by submitting a registration form and check(s) payable to the Westchester Institute for Teachers.

Consortium teachers are encouraged to teach courses through Teh Westchester Institute for Teachers and should call or email the Institute with their course proposals. Those interested in teaching Online courses also need to contact the Institute to get on our list for the required 45 hours of online training offered through the NY Institute of Technology.
